How to take a screenshot on Linux

On Linux, the screenshot shortcuts come from your desktop environment rather than the operating system itself. The good news: on nearly all of them, the key opens a screenshot tool. Ubuntu, Fedora Workstation and Debian use GNOME by default; Kubuntu, KDE neon and many others use KDE Plasma.

Quick answer

Press to open the screenshot tool, select an area, a window or the whole screen, and press . The image is saved to Pictures/Screenshots and copied to the clipboard.
